Limited supplies will be available, please bring your favorite drawing, painting or sculpting materials! Two workstations will run all day: one with a nude model, the other clothed. Models will do short, medium, and long poses, and artists may move freely between each room. THERE WILL BE A BREAK from 2 - 3 pm.

Sip hot drinks from handmade mugs made by friends of GAC. These are available for purchase with a suggested donation, CASH please!

Non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase, CASH please!

WELT FELTING FUNDAMENTALS

Go in-depth into felting using the wet felt technique. Wet felt has been used for centuries throughout the world to make hats, coats, scarves, shoes, purses; the list goes on. Learn how different fibers react to water, soap, and agitation to give you a usable fabric. You'll be shown methods to make flat felt, cords, and working with a resist to create a three dimensional and continuous seam. Everything you've wanted to know to get you started felting will be in this class!

Artist Talk: Saturday, February 22, 2 - 3 pm

‘Home Is Where the Heart Is’ explores the concept of home through three perspectives: close-up, medium-range, and long-range. The “close-up” examines the emotional complexity of physical homes, reflecting on shelter, comfort, and alienation. The “medium-range” focuses on Earth as a shared home in crisis, addressing climate change and resource depletion. The “long-range” uses imagination to explore humanity’s place in the cosmos. Through diverse artworks, the exhibition highlights the interconnectedness of these “homes,” urging reflection on our relationship with personal spaces, the planet, and the universe.

Artist Talk: Saturday, March 1, 2 - 3 pm with moderator Karlos Cárcamo.

‘Depth Perception’ showcases Slick’s recent paintings inspired by prehistoric monumentality and archaeological forms. A member of the International Society of Antiquaries, Slick bridges ancient narratives and contemporary painting, using color, texture, and patterns to explore how lithic shapes occupy abstract space. His work reinterprets Neolithic stone formations, emphasizing the interplay of nature and human-made structures through vibrant compositions. Evoking shifting rural light, the pieces invite reflection on monument building and myth-making's cultural and political significance. This exhibition inspires curiosity and wonder, reminding us of our deep connection to history beneath our feet, waiting to be rediscovered.

Screen printing is a rich, expressive, and versatile medium. This course will cover all of the basics of screen preparation and printing. Through education, exhibition, and community outreach programming, our vision is to foster a vibrant, diverse community where art is everywhere and accessible for ALL to experience.

EDUCATION

In 2023, the art center hosted 5,540 students onsite for 118 programs for adults and children in fine arts, printmaking, fiber arts, mixed media, and ceramics taught by 40 teaching artists. In 2023-24, we provided 6 outreach programs to 675 people at 34 schools.

ARTISTS/EXHIBITIONS

Annually, we host ten exhibitions in our galleries. These feature juried, solo, member, and student shows. In 2023 alone, 725 individuals showed their creative work at GAC: 483 young creators, ages 5-18, displayed in our galleries; 242 fine artists joined us for our juried exhibitions and member shows, and 60 artists, inspired by the landscape of the Hudson Valley, exhibited in our galleries for our Spring Fundraising Event, a live auction on the banks of the Hudson River.

EVENTS

Our three annual events support our mission, foster crafts, and fine arts in the Hudson Valley, and function as anticipated seasonal gatherings. In 2024, 112 potters and artisans showcased handmade goods at Garrison Craft and The Holiday Pottery Show & Sale. Our 60th Anniversary Auction encouraged artists to find inspiration in the Hudson Valley and included 60 regional artists.
