Fall Fundraiser Film Screening:
Paint Me A Road Out of Here
Saturday, September 20, 2025

4:00 PM | Philipstown Depot Theatre Screening
Q&A with film's producer, Emmy Award Winner, and GAC alumna Arielle Amsalem
6:00–7:00 PM | Reception Garrison Art Center Galleries

We are proud to present a special screening of Paint Me A Road Out of Here, an award-winning documentary featuring artists Faith Ringgold and Mary Enoch Elizabeth Baxter. The film uncovers the overlooked history of Faith’s masterpiece For the Women’s House and traces its remarkable 50-year journey from Rikers Island to the Brooklyn Museum. With humor, poignancy, and truth, it calls for a world without mass incarceration.

The screening will take place at The Depot Theater, generously lending us the space for this event. Immediately after, join an engaging Q&A with Emmy Award-winning producer — and GAC alum — Arielle Amsalem, along with Demetrius James, Bard Prison Initiative alumnus and Program Director at the Bard Microcollege for Just Community Leadership in Harlem. Together, they will offer behind-the-scenes insight into the film’s creation and the urgent work it continues to inspire.

The afternoon concludes with a reception across the way at Garrison Art Center, featuring refreshments, conversation, and two new exhibitions — Landscapes by Thomas Sarrantonio and Portraits by Elizabeth DeBethune.

Tickets: $50
All proceeds directly benefit Garrison Art Center’s exhibitions, educational programs, and community outreach.

Don’t miss this moving experience — and the chance to see how creativity can be a catalyst for change.
