It All Counts: Painting Landscape Now
April 11 - May 3, 2026
Opening Reception: Saturday, April 11, 2026 5 - 7 PM

In It All Counts: Painting Landscape Now, Ann Wolf recreates the naturally occurring tableaus she encounters while wandering in undeveloped spaces far from the built world. Living on the Helderberg Plateau with access to the Catskills, she is drawn to what she sees as some of the last remaining wild places that will eventually be overtaken by development or
decimated by climate change. Positioning herself as a descendant of the women painters of the Hudson River School, Wolf acknowledges both the
majesty and the fragility of these landscapes. She paints with an awareness that these environments are increasingly threatened and regards her subjects with equal measures of joy and mourning. Her work becomes both an act of appreciation and a memorial, her counterweight to humanity’s impact on the natural world. Working from photographs, Wolf paints in oil on panel and gouache and watercolor on paper. Her small-scale works depict intimate, often hidden scenes like tunnels, cavities, and thickets. Wolf seeks moments that feel enchanted, as if a spell has been cast or a portal has opened. In an increasingly disenchanted world, her paintings offer a quiet return to mystery and
wonder.
