INSCAPE/ OUTSCAPE
October 17 – November 22, 2026
Opening Reception October 17, 2026 5-7 PM
Curated from The William Louis-Dreyfus Foundation, INSCAPE/OUTSCAPE is an exhibition in Garrison Art Center's Balter Gallery grounded in verticality, contrast, and structural detail, elements that highlight how framing, both literal and metaphorical, shapes our perception. Focusing on architectural forms and the interplay of shadow and light, the selected works explore the boundaries between interior and exterior, presence and absence, and the human impulse to build, define, and look through space. The nearly monochromatic palette strips away distraction, focusing the viewer’s attention on form and perspective. Here, light becomes structure, void becomes presence, and every composition offers a deliberate point of reference. Whether peering into intimate corners or out toward expansive horizons, each piece invites reflection on how environments shape and mirror our ways of seeing and being in the world.

Artworks were curated from The William Louis-Dreyfus Foundation by Melissa Small Cooper, Monica Church, Catherine V. Graham, and Stanford Kay. Says executive director, Catherine V. Graham, “The WLD Foundation holds a very special and visceral array of artworks. WLD didn’t collect because big galleries were telling him to make the right investments; he collected from the heart, befriending artists and frequenting their studios around the world. Because of this, the collection feels very special, more personal than a museum; one can feel the soul and emotional connection within the work.”
