A founder of the Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale, NY, Kellner’s personal history has led her to think about how society as a whole learns about the past and how that interpretation affects our understanding of contemporary culture and, ultimately, our lives. The current political landscape, with the erosion of civil liberties and the deterioration of public dialog, parallels her experience growing up in communist Czechoslovakia as the daughter of Holocaust survivors.
Contemplating today's stressed and troubling world, Kellner utilizes painting and printmaking to create new pathways and visions to allow us to breathe and find a way to move forward in our troubled yet beautiful world. Her process is organic, expressive, and intuitive. Tatana is interested in exploring the unknown, welcoming each day with bravery and an open heart. Through a process of accumulation and subtraction, Kellner embraces the subjectivity of her particular experience and perspective.
