Garrison Art Center and Desmond-Fish Public Library invite printmakers to submit work for a collaborative exhibition exploring the intersection of nature, history, and discovery.

Inspired by Garrison Art Center’s summer theme, Rooted: Art and the Natural World, and the Library’s summer reading theme, Unearth A Story, this exhibition considers the many ways we connect to the world around us—through landscape, material, and time.

We encourage artists to think expansively about what it means to be “rooted” and what it means to “unearth.” These ideas may be approached literally or conceptually.

Through this collaboration, we aim to highlight the rich connections between art, storytelling, and the natural world—inviting artists and viewers alike to look more closely, dig more deeply, and discover new ways of seeing.

Artists might explore:

  • The natural world as subject, material, or collaborator

  • The use of natural items as art materials

  • Hidden or overlooked histories—personal, cultural, or environmental

  • Acts of excavation, layering, or revealing

  • The passage of time in the landscape

  • Storytelling through texture, trace, and transformation

Work may incorporate traditional or experimental printmaking techniques, including but not limited to relief, intaglio, lithography, screenprint, monotype, and expanded or mixed-media approaches.

This exhibition will be on view at Desmond-Fish Public Library and juried collaboratively by both institutions.

Eligibility: Open to all printmakers age 16+
Submission Guidelines:

  • Must be created within the past 3 years

  • Open to artists in the region who can deliver and pick up their work.

  • Artworks should have the artist's name, title, and medium on the back of the work

  • Artworks must be framed and ready to hang.
