Here’s a creative way to help clean up our planet: make art from single-use plastic bags. Single-use plastics are most commonly used for packaging and serviceware, such as bottles, wrappers, straws, and bags and come in a myriad of colors, thicknesses, patterns, and textures. With teaching artist Natalya Khorover’s guidance, students will make art inspired by nature out of collected plastic bags and single use plastic. She will show you how to prepare the plastic, cut it, and stitch it by hand. Experiment and create an artwork like no other. Techniques and skills covered in class: composition, collage, hand stitching and basic embroidery. Students are encouraged to start collecting their single-use plastics to use in class.
