Summer Arts on the Hudson for incoming Kindergarten through 8th grade students.
June 29-July 17, 2020
Summer Arts on the Hudson is Garrison Art Center’s highly acclaimed arts immersion program for children entering grades K – 8. The daily program runs for 3 weeks, 9:30 – 3:00.
Summer Arts on the Hudson is a unique opportunity for children to learn new skills and expand their worlds. While the focus is on art, the program is designed to serve all interests and the creative potential existing within all children. Students will use a wide range of materials in traditional and experimental approaches, with an emphasis on shared discovery and friendly fun.
Students are expected to enroll for the full three weeks. Continuity is a crucial component of this progressive program, designed to build on skills and knowledge and to offer children the opportunity to experiment in an open-minded and congenial environment. Through this process, children finish with increased confidence and a strong sense of accomplishment.
Each year a different theme is chosen to guide the curriculum and, along with the study of many artists and ideas, children begin the development of a richer artistic language. We welcome all young artists in 2020 as we further explore the theme of Express Yourself! exploring abstract expressionism.
This summer’s theme will allow our teaching artists to introduce students to a wide range of artists, art history and art-making. Students will be engaged in collage, painting, sculpture, papier mache, and more.
Our teaching staff is comprised of highly credentialed teaching artists, whose knowledge and open approach will encourage and nurture all students. Concluding the 3 weeks students will exhibit their work at the Riverside Galleries at Garrison Art Center. Family and Friends are invited to attend and celebrate our young artists!
