Monotypes have been created by Matisse, Degas, William Merritt Chase, Mary Frank, Michael Mazur, and William Blake. Try your hand at this versatile medium ideal for beginners and experienced printmakers. It can be a simple drawing or a complex image with many layers of color and multiple plates on Plexiglas or a copper plate.
Using water base inks, and other materials, we’ll learn to paint, roll, and control ink, register multicolor images, and work with positive and negative space. We’ll explore trace monotypes, ghost images, and how to use stencils. If you have old, worked-on intaglio or collagraph plates and source material, please bring them to our first class.
