The term intaglio refers to different ways of working into a copper plate including drypoint, aquatint, etching, soft ground, lift ground, spitbite, and more. There is a richness and beauty in an intaglio print that can show depth, color, and mystery. In this class, open to beginners and experienced printmakers, we’ll go through each process and ways to combine them to create a visual image or print. Techniques will be demonstrated and discussed and we’ll learn how to mix inks, wipe plates, and various ways to use or add color including a la poupée and stencils. We’ll learn about registration, different types of papers, how to tear paper, and print an edition. (limited to m8 students)
