Combining photography with encaustic painting provides an opportunity to experiment with both mediums and create new artistic possibilities. This class is designed for students to explore landscapes as the Hudson River Painters and learn how to capture a similar vision and fuse it with the luminous and translucency of encaustic medium.
The class will begin on the banks of the iconic Hudson River where teaching artist Alaina Enslen will share and discuss the work of the Hudson River School Painters and the design principles they used in their landscapes. Students will then use this knowledge to capture similar photographs. Over the course of 4 weeks we will concentrate on taking our photographic images and printing them as archival photographs, and fusing them with encaustic medium. Students can use cameras or smartphones for this class.
