Instructor: Harry Bolick
While learning a new tune each week, we will cover basic bowing patterns, scales, a bit of music theory, touch on the history of the music and each tune. Special attention will be given to demonstrate the melody as it relates to the chords that a back up instrument would provide. The goal is to bring all of these bits of fiddle lore together in a way that will help a developing fiddler recognize patterns in the music so that they can more quickly join in the fun of jam sessions. In the subsequent 4 weeks, we will build on what we have learned, covering a more varied and more complex set of tunes and developing second fiddle parts to "back up" the melody fiddler. The class will be adjusted to meet the abilities and needs of the students.
