Garrison Art Center was founded in 1964 by a group of local parents interested in supplementing their children's arts education. The Art Center currently offers classes 7-days a week that serve all ages, skill levels and diverse interests. The continuous exhibitions in The Riverside Galleries offer additional educational opportunities for teaching artists and their students, as well as for educators and students in the larger community.
More than twenty years ago the Art Center began summer arts education for K through 8th graders. In 1999, a summer arts intensive program for high school students was established. And in 2012, a summer program for pre-K children, ages 2 through 4 was launched.
Creative skill development and visual literacy have always been a focus of Art Center education programs. The nationally recognized 21st century skills--critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity--are an integral part of the Art Center programming. The nature of studio classroom teaching lends itself to the successful incorporation of these skills.
In addition, the Art Center is actively collaborating with area schools, art teachers, non-art teachers and students to enhance the existing curriculum. To print a Request for Financial Assistance click here
