| The SAH program initiates young children into the wonders of creative expression and the structure of good work habits. Emphasis is on learning how to use different materials and tools in a knowledgeable and fun manner. We will refer to the work of many well known artists to help children broaden their appreciation of art and inspire their own ideas. Below are listed some of the areas of concentration and other activities that children will have to look forward to this summer. |

| This summer promises to be both exciting and challenging for young artists at GAC. Students will be involved with projects that are aimed at increasing their skill level and introducing them to new possibilities. The range of opportunities to choose from covers most traditional disciplines and current trends in art. We want to give everyone a chance to find their own creative passion and be able to competently express it. Our faculty, guest artists and studios provide a comfortable place for friendly exchanges and learning. Below are outlined some of the activities and objectives we have planned for SAH. | |

| GAC's education programs are distinguished by our commitment to offering a comprehensive art experience of the highest quality to children and young adults. Summer Arts on the Hudson (SAH) is one of our premier immersion programs for children ages 6-13. This is a daily program that runs for three weeks every July. SAH is a unique opportunity for children to learn art skills and expand their creativity in a friendly and exciting atmosphere. Students will work with a wide range of materials in traditional and contemporary styles. The emphasis is on exploration and intuition tempered with sound technical skills training. | |
| Each year we use a different theme as a reference for many of the projects. This year we took a whimsical approach to landscapes and natural environments with a theme called "Surf n' Turf, Art that covers the Earth". We will look at art and artists througout history to seek out all theliteral and expressionistic examples that relate to our theme. As well, we have the incredible surrounding landscape of the Hudson Highlands to inspire great works of art. Using all kinds of materials and methods we hope to encourage children's environmental sensitivity and awareness by actively creating their own renditions of "Surf n' Turf". | |
| Continuity is a crucial comonent of SAH and for this reason we expect students to sign up for the full three weeks. What with all the projects, trips and daily fun, it is hard to fit everything in. During the third week alone we feature our "Art-A-Fair", a day of involvement for families and friends in art games, mini-workshops and more. The last day of the program, Friday, July 18 features the world's shortest art exhibit where the best work form the summer is displayed and enjoyed and then taken home the same day. | |
