Strategic Opportunity Stipends (SOS), a project of the New York Foundation for the Arts, working in collaboration with arts councils and cultural organizations across New York State, are designed to help individual artists of all disciplines take advantage of unique opportunities that will significantly benefit their career development. Literary, media, visual, music and performing artists may request support ranging from $200 to $1,500 for specific, forthcoming opportunities that are distinct from ongoing work.
Please note: there is a geographic restriction for SOS. It is only available to New York State artists EXCLUDING residents of the five boroughs of New York City.
SOS applications are accepted at two times during the 2011-2012 funding cycle. Opportunities cannot be funded retroactively.
ROUND 1 DEADLINE
EXTENDED TO SEPTEMBER 26
The deadline is being extended because access to the internet and power have been limited for some regions in New York due to Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene.
September 12, 2011 – for opportunities occurring between: November 1, 2011 - October 31, 2012 (please note this date range is not an error, NYFA has opened up the first deadline to include any opportunities occurring between this and next November)
ROUND 2 DEADLINE
April 5, 2012 – for opportunities occurring between: June 2012 - October 2012
