Photography Contest

CURRENT: A Sculpture Tour
June 1st – August 10th


Garrison Art Center is pleased to invite the entire community to participate in a photography contest celebrating the outdoor sculpture exhibit CURRENT: A Sculpture Tour. The exhibit, including 50 sculptures by 20 different artists may be photographed on the grounds of Boscobel, Manitoga, the Desmond Fish Library, the Cold Spring waterfront and Garrison’s Landing. CURRENT will run from June 1 to August 10; photographers should prepare to submit their entries between July 2 - July 6.
The photography competition will culminate in a weekend exhibition of all photographs at Garrison Art Center on July 19th, 12 – 6 PM and 20th from 12 – 5 PM. There will be a reception on July 19th from 4 - 6 PM for all the photographers, their families and friends, as well as the sculptors whose work has been photographed. Honors will be awarded and photographs may be sold for the benefit of the GAC Scholarship Fund.
There is no fee to participate. Entries will be judged by an outside juror. Digital and film, color and black and white, children and adults, amateurs and professionals are all welcome. Prints only, no CD’s. Participants are encouraged to be as creative as they dare!
GUIDELINES:
  Photograph any time from June 1 to July 1.

  Drop off your entries at GAC between 12 - 3:30 PM from July 2 to July 6th marked ATTN: Photo Contest
or mail to: Garrison Art Center, P.O. Box 4
(Fedex or UPS to: 23 Garrison’s Landing), Garrison NY 10524.

  Make sure each photograph is clearly marked with your name.

  After the exhibition, unsold photos can be picked up at GAC from July 21 - 25, 12 - 3:30 PM or mailed back if stamped, self addressed envelope is provided at time of submission.

   Please include your name, address, phone and email with your submission.

  Please indicate whether you prefer your photos NOT to be offered for sale to benefit the Scholarship Fund. If they are for sale, please clearly mark your asking price.

  GAC will take a 50% commission on that price.

  Tell us whether your photograph is digital, alternative process or film, whether you are amateur or professional, whether you are over or under 18 years of age.

  Awards will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category, as well as Best in Show.

  You may submit up to 3 images.

  The sizes should be from 5” x 7” minimum to 24” x 30” maximum, and may be printed on any surface.

The Juror for the CURRENT Photo Competition will be Ion Zupcu, a Romanian born photographer who is represented by several galleries: ClampArt in NYC, Studio 391 in Galela CA, the Lexington Gallery in Virginia, Hooper’s Gallery in London, Candace Perich Gallery in Katonah, and many more. His newest body of work will open at the Woodstock Photographic Center on June 28th. His work has been purchased by many museums, nationally and internationally. Zupcu has been reviewed by the New York Times among other publications, and has been featured in Lenswork Magazine, B&W, Fotomagazine and others.

Chronogram Magazine recently wrote of Mr.Zupcu’s work: “The careful attention to detail, immaculate gelatin-silver printing, and very organized, aesthetically sensitive approach to his subject evident in this series are qualities that carry over to all of his fine art work as well, including his most recent series, Works on Paper.
