"The sun is the central force of our days and nights, the presence and absence of its heat and light affects our activities, moods, and perceptions. The sun has been worshipped as a god, a primal source of energy, and given humans the concept and visual evidence of the movement of time." Lori Nozick's installation "Lighthouses" celebrates the sun, light and space, and is a spiritual and actual beacon, solarized and reflective by day, glowing with light and color by night. Viewers walking through the installation expand and personalize the piece, thereby becoming a part of the installation itself. The sculptures are constructed with an inner steel frame, covered with aluminum mesh, and sealed with a polymer/acrylic skin that is milky white or transparent with iridescence. Each houses a solar collector panel at the top, capable of harvesting at least 6 hours of sunlight each day and triggering the LED lights to come on at dusk to quietly glow throughout the night. Nozick was born and currently lives in the northeast US. Institute. Nozick's art explores the perceptions, expectations, and forms in architecture as expression of self and society. Private and public spaces define individual existence while connecting us to the outside world, and it is this relationship that informs her architectural sculpture. Nozick received a BFA from Philadelphia College of Art and an MFA from Pratt Institute.
