Bradford Graves (1939 - 1998) was a New York based sculptor who, in his relatively short career, made a tremendous impact on those familiar with his work. He studied at the School of Visual Arts in NYC and traveled, studied and exhibited throughout the world. For his exhibitions and public projects critics gave Graves considerable recognition, and his work was added to a number of major collections. John Caldwell of The New York Times said of his work, "Bradford Graves' sculpture is complex. We see carved limestone slabs that look like the ruins of ancient walls. One sees obscure, mystical meaning which is moving…. Graves' (work) is radical, yet resolutely untrendy work." Edward J. Sozanski of the Philadelphia Enquirer noted, "(Graves') compositional schemes balance masses in a way that expresses tension between the forces of growth and gravity."
