Sculptor Mark Gibian lives and works in Williamsburgh, Brooklyn, and in Plattekill, New York. His exhibited piece "Arc" is a transitional piece between a series of steel and slumped glass pieces and his public works. This series began when Gibian decided to allow the interior structure to remain visible. Initially he slumped (or melted) glass over, under and around a steel structure, which he rolled, bent, welded and ground. The straight panes of wired glass and triangulated structure of "Arc" allow Gibian to make curves from straight lines without bending glass. Gibian just recently installed an eight-ton stainless steel sculpture at a monumental development at Northside Piers in Williamsburg, which will open to the public this summer.
