 ARTIST STATEMENTNaomi Canaan, potter For me, the art of photography is the search for that which is hidden within the eye of the camera. There is a symbiotic relationship between artist and medium akin to seeking the image that calls out to a sculptress from within a piece of stone or wood; as her chisel breaks away that which conceals what is within, that which is seen and recorded in such a way that lets the image take form and come to life. My photography is story driven, with the design emerging from within the frame becoming an important element of the whole. My ceramic works, as well as my writings, also focus on specific elements and their place within the whole.
