Tides Out BIOGRAPHY
Ralph Papa, a native New Yorker, began sketching and painting as a child growing up on Manhattan's upper East Side. In the 1960's, he studied and painted at the Art Students League and exhibited regularly in Greenwich Village. Papa worked and exhibited in New York City and Long Island until moving to Putnam Valley in 1988. His subjects have been primarily of real and imagined people and faces, often larger than life, creating a serious and pensive mood for the viewer. In the past 12 years, Papa has shifted his emphasis from studio painting to on-location landscapes in the Hudson Valley and in Long Island at Montauk and the Hamptons.

Spanning a period of over 40 years, his works reflect a serene yet powerful style in communicationg a love and respect for nature and individuality. Papa's paintings have a unique personal quality for the artist as well as the beholder.
