| Maria Melero had her first GAC solo show in 1996. This new body of work has undergone an evolution from representational to meditative and, therefore, necessarily abstract. She has shifted her concerns from visual detail to inner essence. Melero's paintings are compositions of elemental forms rendered in rich, subtle earth tones that reinforce the feeling that the work is at the same time a reflection of the organic geometry of the cosmos and of the artist's deep understanding of nature. The viewer is drawn in by the understated and remarkably unselfconscious quality of the imagery. This is a mature and serene vision. One can also, unmistakenly, see Melero's Spanish heritage. Melero's voice here is not striving to be heard, but is one which seems to have found its place in the universal harmony.
