 Artist's Statement |

Marie Liu has been a lifelong resident of the Hudson Valley. After receiving her fine arts degree from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, she returned here to the landscape she loves. Her desire to see the arts thrive in her hometown, Middletown, New York led to the creation of the Star Gallery. Her work may be seen there, as well as that of many other regional artists. As a painter, Marie Liu strives to communicate and capture the awe she experiences from the natural world. "I long to share those moments in life that seem to transcend our daily concerns." Whether painting on location in many of the local scenic places or using nature as a metaphor for our human experiences, Liu's paintings are simple, bright, and thoughtful. And sometimes humorous, as in the case of her popular "Traveling Cows" series. These large canvases depict whimsical bovines traveling to many of the world's "hot spots," dressing in regional costume and participating in local culture. |
