Bernie Kessler has been an award winning visual artist for more than fifty years. As a young man he received recognition for his work almost from the very beginning of his career. He was published in Popular Photography, The New York Post, The Herald Tribune, and U.S Coast Guard Magazine. He won national recognition as a Grand Prize winner in the National Newspaper Snapshot Contest. He was chosen by RKO Pictures to take the publicity pictures for the Academy Award winning motion picture, The Best Years of Their Lives. Most recent awards include: Kodalux, Inc., Cape Cod Life Magazine, Hudson River Photography Exhibition, and The Polaroid Corporation. He served as Chairman and President of the Artists for the Environment Foundation for over 12 years. During that time AFE was credited with having played a leading role in the revival of American landscape painting in the Sixties, culminating in a major exhibition at the Corcoran, Washington D.C. and a cover story in the Smithsonian magazine. He is currently serving as Curator for the Stone Ridge Gallery, Pound Ridge, NY. Recent commercial projects include: CD album covers for High Harmony, Harmonica Ventures and Now and Soon Productions, Inc., Digital Solution, Inc., a children's book, 92 portraits for the Whitney Museum's Millennium Project, the upcoming advertising campaign for the Linotype-Heil Corporation (a world leader in high end scanning and printing technologies), a CD-ROM for Sony Corp. featuring James Taylor, and commissions for the private collections of James Taylor, Katherine Walker and Peter Stiglin. Bernie is listed in Who's Who America, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World, and the 1993 Annual Guide to Museums, Galleries and Artists as a distinguished member of the Hudson River School of Painters. Memberships include the Valley Art Association, Garrison Art Center, Putnam Arts Council, Sunday Photography Club, The International Center for Photography and the Katonah Museum Associated Artists. He conducts workshops for the Valley Art Association, Putnam Arts Council, Montrose Library, Garrison Art Center, The Cultural Coop and The Polaroid Corporation. When he is not painting or photographing he is a psychologist working with Fortune 100 Companies helping executives enhance their creative capabilities. |
