CURRENT 2008: a Sculpture Tour Garrison Art Center invites artists to submit a proposals for its upcoming exhibition CURRENT a Sculpture Tour which will open on June 1, 2008. The outdoor exhibition will be installed at five landmark sites within the riverfront towns of Garrison and Cold Spring, New York, (50 miles north of NYC) and will remain open to the public free of charge through August 10, 2008. The sites range from majestic with expansive views of the river to intimate woodland paths, bankside niches and even "in the water" possibilities. Last year's show, our first, was an enormous success, seen throughout the summer by over 30,000 people.
The purpose of CURRENT is two fold: 1) to host a community-wide collaboration that brings artists' works of regional, national and international notoriety to our own doorstep and 2) to raise monies for Garrison Art Center's Gillette Scholarship Fund. GAC will host a Preview Tour and Party to meet the artists on Saturday May 31, 2008. Proceeds from the ticket sales of this event will endow the scholarship fund as well as proceeds from the sale of any artwork. (Because GAC is currently not in a position to offer an installation stipend to artists, the standard gallery sales percentage of 50/50 will be altered, GAC 40% /artist 60%.)
A jury of three will select the artists and specific pieces that are to be included in this year's exhibition. The jury includes Merrill Falkenberg, curator of The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT, artist Edward Smith, a Guggenheim Fellow in sculpture and drawing and a distinguished professor of art, and Grace Knowlton, an artist of international renown primarily known for her sculpture but equally accomplished as a two-dimensional artist.
Please submit an application (download from website) and a CD with up to ten images of work that is currently available for this exhibition along with a bio and a web address if you have a website. If necessary you may submit e-mail friendly images to dir@garrisonartcenter.org. Include a SASE for the return of materials. Accepted artists will be represented in printed and advertising materials and an image with an artist bio will be included in a catalog available at all sites along with tour maps of the entire exhibition.
